**These probabilities are calibrated** — the percentages reflect how often comparable trips historically ran under similar conditions. When the model shows an 80% chance of running, about 80% of comparable trips historically ran.

Tomorrow and beyond use the Open-Meteo marine forecast for each departure’s hour. Forecasts for days 1–3 are highly reliable; confidence decreases further out.

Model & Methodology

The model estimates whether each scheduled ferry will run based on current and forecasted marine conditions.

**When the model shows an 80% chance of running, about 80% of comparable trips historically ran.** The chances are calibrated, so they can be read directly.

Trained on 33,416 trips from Jan 2023 to Dec 2025, 1,026 of them cancelled. Last retrained Oct 4, 2026. It covers weather-related risk on Nantucket routes only; mechanical and operational cancellations are not modeled.

46% [Brier skill](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brier_score#Brier_Skill_Score_(BSS))

less error than always predicting the usual 2.8% cancellation rate

0.91 [AUC on windy trips](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receiver_operating_characteristic#Area_under_the_curve)

how well it ranks cancelled above running trips when wind is 20+ mph

Tested on 11,943 trips from Jan 2025 on, using a model trained only on the 21,473 trips before then.
