What we collect, and what we don’t.

FerryForecast is a small, independent project. We try to keep data collection minimal and transparent. This page describes everything that gets recorded when you visit the site, and how to opt out.

Analytics — PostHog

We use PostHog to understand how visitors use the site. PostHog stores its data in the United States. We do not sell, share, or trade any visitor data with third parties.

PostHog captures:

  • Pageviews — which page you visited and when, including referrer.
  • Device + browser metadata — screen size, browser version, approximate location (city level, derived from IP).
  • Session recordings — an anonymized replay of your interactions (mouse movement, clicks, scrolls). This helps us see when a page is confusing or broken.
  • Performance + console messages — page load timing and any JavaScript errors the browser logs.

PostHog does not capture:

  • Password fields (<input type="password"> is masked by default).
  • Your email, name, or any account identifier — we don’t require an account.

Cookies

We set the following cookies:

  • PostHog session cookies — identify a single browser session so pageviews stitch together correctly. No PII.
  • Site access cookies — if a password gate is enabled (during preview/beta periods), a signed cookie remembers that you entered the password.

Forms & submissions

The only form on the public site that accepts input is the contact email link in the footer. Anything you send to cooper@veyseysoftwaresolutions.com is handled like any normal email — it sits in an inbox and is not fed into analytics or shared.

Server logs

The site is hosted on Vercel. Vercel keeps short-term request logs (IP, path, response code, timestamp) for operational and abuse-prevention purposes. These logs are not used for analytics and roll off automatically.

How to opt out

  • Enable “Do Not Track” or use a browser that blocks third-party scripts (Brave, Firefox with strict tracking protection, Safari with intelligent tracking prevention). PostHog will be blocked.
  • Use a content blocker (uBlock Origin, AdGuard) — PostHog domains (us.i.posthog.com) are on most public blocklists.
  • Email us at cooper@veyseysoftwaresolutions.com and ask us to delete any session recordings or events associated with your IP. We will do it.

Children

FerryForecast is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If we change what is collected we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted in the site footer for a reasonable period.
